EU and Kazakhstan Launch First Negotiation Round on Visa Facilitation and Readmission Agreements
The launch of the negotiations had been announced at the 22nd meeting of the EU- Kazakhstan Cooperation Council, held on December 1 in Brussels under the chairmanship of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas and Kazakhstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yermek Kosherbayev.

The launch was co-chaired by Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs Johannes Luchner and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alibek Bakayev.
The launch of the negotiations coincided with the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Kazakhstan and the EU.
The European Union and Kazakhstan agreed to hold the next round of negotiations in Astana in early 2026.
