Project Description
Restoration of degraded land and better access to pasture are critical issues for the survival of the ecosystem and the resilience of the rural communities.
The JAILYM Project aims to improve sustainability and governance of the pasture lands and the grazing activities.
The Project will provide training and technical assistance on livestock management, climate change risks and adaptation, and also establish
innovative mechanisms of participatory territorial governance and public-private cooperation.
Main target groups: 250 smallholder farmers and breeders, 100 representatives of NGOs, grassroots producer associations and Business Support Organisations, 50 Local Authorities’ delegates, 40 professors and students of 6 Kazakh universities and research institutes, 10 vulnerable young women and men (job seekers).
Expected results:
• 5 Unions of pasture users (UPUs) and 1 District Pasture Coordinating Council (DPCC) set-up and participating in local decision making;
• Sustainable pasture management plans developed and implemented;
• A computerized system for monitoring land degradation and managing access to pastures realised;
• Project pilot experience spread and upscaled at the national level.
