Ready4Trade project launches free courses for exporters

Astana, 19 September 2022 – A new Cross-Border Trade Management Curriculum has been launched in Astana at the Hilton Garden Inn today. This initiative is part of the Ready4Trade Central Asia project, implemented by ITC and funded by the European Union. The business community of Kazakhstan can now enrol in free courses to build their skills on topics ranging from the international trade rules to the export procedures, transit routes, quality and conformity standards, and specific European Union market requirements.

The curriculum, which will offer additional courses in the coming months, will be delivered both online and in person by QazTrade to existing and potential exporters in the country. The training has been developed by the International Trade Centre (ITC), a joint agency of the World Trade Organization and the United Nations, to focus on specific challenges faced by exporters in Kazakhstan and other countries of Central Asia.

Training workshops run by QazTrade trainers, with the support of ITC, had already started in August with exporters from various regions of Kazakhstan. Additionally, through a new e-learning platform, the QazTrade Academy (https://www.qaztradeacademy.kz/), potential and existing exporters can now complete these courses online for free and obtain verifiable certificates.

Mr. Johannes Baur, Head of Cooperation, EU Delegation to Kazakhstan:

“The goal of this curriculum is to help small and medium-sized companies to use existing and emerging opportunities to successfully face new global challenges in international trade and to become a solid backbone of the global socio-economic landscape. I am particularly pleased to see Kazakhstan taking the lead on these developments in Central Asia by actively mastering European and international trade standards and adapting its education and training systems to match a rapidly evolving technological and socio-economic reality”

Mr. Kairat Torebayev, Vice-Minister of Trade and integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan:

“One of the key tasks for increasing non-commodity exports of Kazakhstan is to improve the competencies of our entrepreneurs and stimulate the export orientation of their production. Nowadays, more and more medium and small industries are orienting their business to foreign markets. The Ready4Trade Central Asia Curriculum provides the basics of both cross-border trade and export features to selected markets. It will allow our businessmen to improve their expert skills and, we hope, become successful and sustainable players in international trade”

The initiative aims towards increasing knowledge, awareness of prospect opportunities through enabling and supporting exports that are indeed changing the lives of entrepreneurs, especially women exporters of Kazakhstan. The courses arrive at an opportune time to support the realignment of trading routes and the new opportunities arising out of the global transformation processes underway.

ITC, Mr. Shaun Lake, Manager, SME Trade Academy:

"I believe that these courses will make a real difference in making participants better prepared to export thanks to their problem-based approach. Our training methodology for online learning and for physical workshops has been tried and tested and has received a lot of positive reactions from trainers and trainees alike."

The curriculum is expected to help businesses in Kazakhstan better prepare themselves to export their products regionally and internationally through practical training and real-life examples.
