EU Ambassador Visits Klinë/Klina and Istog/Istok

Today, the EU Ambassador in Kosovo, Tomáš Szunyog, visited the municipalities of Klinë/Klina and Istog/Istok. During his visit, he met with Mayors Zenun Elezaj of Klinë/Klina and Ilir Ferati of Istog/Istok to discuss various issues, including local governance, economic development, women's representation in local governance, and cooperation with the central government.

 

In Klinë/Klina, Ambassador Szunyog unveiled the renovated Health Centre, a key milestone of the EU4 ALL project, aimed at improving accessibility for persons with disabilities. The EU4All project, which spans from 2021 to 2024, invested approximately EUR 100,000 in the Klinë/Klina Health Centre. This initiative is part of a broader investment of over €2.6 million across 19 public buildings in 19 municipalities, fostering inclusivity for people in Kosovo.

During this visit, Ambassador Szunyog visited the EU-supported NEWFO Trofta in Istog/Istok. With EU funding, the company has enhanced the quality of its processed fishery products to meet EU food safety standards, creating jobs and promoting eco-friendly processing and renewable energy technologies. This project, valued at EUR 737,703, was completed in 2022.

Reflecting on these developments, Ambassador Szunyog stated, "It is remarkable to witness the crucial role of EU assistance to Kosovo’s businesses. As Kosovo’s largest donor, the support of the EU has helped stimulate growth, generate jobs, and increase competitiveness. The total EU funding to Kosovo’s private sector development from 2014 to 2023 surpasses €70 million."

During his visit, Ambassador Szunyog toured the Dresnik archaeological site in Klinë/Klina and the village of Goraždevac/Gorazhdec. While in Goraždevac/Gorazhdec, he met with Darko Dimitrijević from Radio Goraždevac to discuss issues affecting the Kosovo Serb community living in the village.
