With Kuwait, consistently

Through the crisis, the EU stood shoulder to shoulder with Kuwait, from the highest-level diplomatic calls to an in-person mission in Kuwait, reaffirming solidarity, security and support when it mattered most. Even amid uncertainty, the partnership kept looking ahead, strengthening cooperation on energy, resilience and a shared, more secure future.

Throughout the crisis, the European Union has expressed its solidarity with all those affected by the Iranian attacks on Kuwait and reiterated the importance of protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure. Our thoughts have always been with Kuwaitis.  

The EU has also maintained close and continuous contact with Kuwait at the highest levels. HR/VP Kaja Kallas made several calls to Kuwait's Minister of Foreign Affairs to convey the EU's solidarity and to stay closely engaged on the fast-moving situation on the ground. President of the EU Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the President of the European Council Antonio Costa also spoke directly with His Highness the Crown Prince and His Highness the Prime Minister, reaffirming the EU's support for Kuwait's security and stability. These exchanges reflect a partnership built not only on words, but on sustained, high-level engagement when it matters most.

The EU's engagement went beyond phone calls. EU Special Representative for the Gulf region Luigi Di Maio travelled to Kuwait during the crisis, meeting with Kuwait's Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defence to reaffirm the EU's solidarity in person and to coordinate closely on the security situation facing the country. The visit underscored the EU's readiness to stand alongside Kuwait, facing the challenges on the ground. The EU and Kuwait stand shoulder to shoulder in addressing regional security challenges.

Even amid the crisis, the EU Delegation to Kuwait continued to look ahead. In June, the Delegation hosted an energy roundtable with Kuwaiti counterparts, a reminder that even in moments of instability, the EU remains focused on the issues that matter for our shared future. Energy security, sustainability and resilience are not questions that can wait: EU and Kuwait continue to work together for a shared and resilient future.
