We offer:

Traineeships of up to 6 months within the following sections of the EU Delegation to LAO PDR, starting in July 2026.

 

I. Traineeship in the Political, Press and Information Section (PPI):

The Political, Press and Information Section (PPI) is responsible for representing the European Union in its relations with Lao PDR; monitoring and reporting on domestic and foreign policy issues; coordinating EU consular activities; managing the Delegation's press and media activities; and organising public diplomacy and strategic communication events.

Main tasks:

  • Preparing social media content, website content and visibility materials, in Lao and English, translating texts in both directions. 
  • Drafting press releases, media advisory notes and responding to media enquiries.
  • Supporting the organisation of cultural activities such as European Film & Food Festival, photo exhibitions or other events.
  • Monitoring national/regional press and social media and preparing weekly press reviews. 
  • Contributing to research/in-depth analyses and reporting (based on news on or thematic topics related to political, economic and social developments in Lao PDR and in the region), preparing meeting minutes. 
  • Assisting in the preparation of missions and other events. 

 II. Traineeship in the Head of Delegation Section (HOD):

The Head of Delegation Section (HOD) supports the work of the Ambassador and the work of the Delegation in general.

The HOD team coordinates with all sections across the Delegation to establish priorities for the Ambassador's agenda, ensure briefing for all scheduled meetings and engagements, coordinate meetings and events. The trainee in the HOD section will also support the administration section in relation with protocol and market research. 

Main tasks:

  • Support to organise events.
  • Open-source research on subjects of interest to the EU; summarising the results of the research in English.

  • Assist in practical aspects of meetings, visits, workshops, receptions and other activities of the Delegation.

  • Provide translation and interpretation services on request (English, Lao).

  • Contribute to various administrative and logistics tasks as required in relation to management of the Delegation's assets and premises.

  • Follow up with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Delegation's administrative requests.

  • Assistance with the Delegation's archiving system.

 

We look for:

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Taking into account the local health and security conditions, only applicants currently residing in LAO PDR and holding a residential permit will be considered.

  • Young graduates with at least a Bachelor-level degree, notably in international relations, political science, European affairs, communication (PPI section) or business administration or communication (HOD Section). 

  •  Written and oral fluency in English and Lao.

  • Good communication and social skills. 

  • A strong interest in international affairs beyond the boundaries of Southeast Asia and Europe, as well as curiosity for other cultures and societies.

  • A keen interest in strategic communication and public diplomacy and enthusiastic about social media

  • Candidates must have less than one year of professional experience after their graduation when signing the Traineeship agreement (other traineeships or student jobs or volunteering works carried out during university or after graduation are not considered as professional experience).

Please mention in the subject of your e-mail: Funded Traineeship -  PPI or HOD  (you may only apply to 1 traineeship per delegation, however based on your profile, the delegation could offer you a traineeship in another section).

 

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship).

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee. 

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin. 

Citizens from EU Member states:

  • must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;

must hold a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable at the time of the application, based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.
