Awareness campaigns to combat gender-based violence (GBV) and support for strengthening Special Units for the care of violence victims (USPEC)

The European Union has funded Special Units for the Care of Violence Victims (USPEC) over several years. Closely linked to programs on maternal and reproductive health and the PASS program, these units are essential for providing victims with the medical and psychological support they need.

In parallel, the European Union has supported awareness campaigns on gender-based violence (GBV). On the one hand, "Alach Ça" campaign — with the slogan REFUSE. SPEAK OUT. ACT. — has been carried out in several phases over multiple years by Médicos del Mundo. This campaign has also promoted the USPEC services and highlighted the importance of accessing them, including healthcare, psychological support, legal assistance to justice, and complaint mechanisms.

On the other hand, an awareness campaign on the abandonment of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), led by the Mauritanian NGO Sifaa Hanki Pinal Hannde, has organized trainings and theatrical sketches in villages across the Brakna region.
