Graines de Citoyenneté
The Graines de Citoyenneté ("Seeds of Citizenship") project aims to strengthen the capacities of civil society actors engaged with Mauritanian youth through a series of training sessions, project calls, discussion platforms, and events. It promotes dialogue between civil society and public authorities, both within Mauritania and in Europe, including the diaspora and initiatives for decentralised cooperation, to better address the challenges faced by young people.
Implemented by a collaboration of 47 partner organizations and 2 consortia, the project brings together Mauritanian associations, migrant-led organizations based in Europe, local authorities from both regions, and institutional actors such as the CDHAHRSC (Commissariat aux Droits de l'Homme, à l'Action Humanitaire et aux Relations avec la Société Civile), along with French NGOs.
The programme receives funding from the European Union (EU), the French Development Agency (AFD), the Centre-Val de Loire Region, CCFD-Terre Solidaire, and Secours Catholique. The EU contributes through two grants:
- ECOSOC - Émergence et cohésion : pour une société civile forte (€2.5 million, 2023-2026)
- SoCI-Active : Une Société Civile Active et Engagée pour son Territoire (€ 1.5 million, 2024-2027)
