The EU supports the work of the Audiovisual Council of Moldova with a donation of equipment

The Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, Jānis Mažeiks, visited the Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Moldova today to donate 45 computers, 46 uninterruptible power supply (UPS) devices, 16 laptops, eight monitors, two servers, as well as 55 licenses for various types of software. The total value of the donated equipment is €125 000.
To ensure fair regulation, the CA will supervise the impartial and balanced coverage of events, including the accuracy of the coverage of the situation in the region, the presence of local audiovisual programmes, equal space for electoral contestants, and ensuring gender equality in audiovisual programmes. All of these are monitored more extensively thanks to the equipment donated by the European Union through Internews.
Ambassador Jānis Mažeiks said that the European Union's contribution was aimed at modernising the technical equipment of the CA and thus increasing the capacity of the staff responsible for monitoring audiovisual media content.
Liliana Vițu, chairwoman of the Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Moldova, said that the donation from the European Union would increase the regulator's performance, as monitoring audiovisual content is one of the seven objectives that the members of the Audiovisual Council have set themselves for 2023.
The CA will focus this year on controlling the programme services of audiovisual media service providers in terms of:
- Local election coverage;
- Compliance with the General Programme Service Concepts;
- Compliance with ensuring accurate information;
- Compliance with the provisions on local audiovisual programmes;
- Safeguarding the national audiovisual space;
- Protection of the national linguistic and cultural heritage;
- Compliance with the conditions for the placement of advertising.
The members of the Audiovisual Council began their six years mandates on 16 December 2021.
