High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell met with President Maia Sandu

High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, met with President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu in Chisinau on Friday.

 

They reaffirmed the importance of relations between the European Union and Moldova. They discussed the progress of Moldova on its path towards the EU. 

The High Representative commended the Government’s dedication to reforms while emphasising his confidence in the ability of the Moldovan institutions to continue tackling the spill over effect of the Russian aggression against Ukraine. 

The High Representative underscored the importance of ongoing cooperation in the areas of security and defence, highlighting the recent establishment of the European Union Partnership Mission in the Republic of Moldova (EUPM). The Mission is already working in close cooperation with its Moldovan partners to strengthen the country's security sector.

The EU will continue to stand in solidarity with and support of the Republic of Moldova on its reform path.

While in Chisinau, High Representative Borrell and Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova Adrian Efros signed the Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union on the Status of the EU Partnership Mission in Moldova (EUPM).
