Clean-up Action of the River Ribnica Riverbank
“Every capital city should have clean rivers, especially when we are talking about the capital of a future Member State of the European Union. That is why we organised a clean-up action together with partners from the civil sector and with the support of Čistoća d.o.o. Podgorica,” said Vuk Vujišić from the organisation Let’s green Montenegro.
The action covered the area around the city landfill and along the River Ribnica, following Španskih boraca Street.
“We realised that the riverbank area of the Ribnica and several car scrapyards located nearby are a source of pollution, and that we must resolve this situation,” Vujišić stated.

He stated that the clean-up action continues and that the installation of park furniture is planned for the near future. To prevent repeated illegal dumping at this location, cameras and warning signs will be installed.
The clean-up action on the River Ribnica riverbank was organised by the NGO Let’s green Montenegro, with the participation of Europe House and representatives of the civil sector, including the NGOs Ljuta Kamilica and Lions Club International, which will also donate a bench made of recycled plastic for this area.
Zorica Ljumović Vučeraković from Lions Club International highlighted the importance of such initiatives.
“We came to contribute to those who have already taken a step forward through numerous actions across Montenegro,” Vučeraković said.
She also addressed the problem of plastic, emphasising that it is a global issue that can be successfully tackled through recycling.
“Therefore, our small contribution was to ensure that benches made from recycled materials are also installed in this area of Podgorica,” Vučeraković added.

The River Ribnica riverbank clean-up action was organised as part of the National Environmental Campaign “Čuvaj da te čuva”. Launched on World Environment Day, 5 June 2025, the campaign “Čuvaj da te čuva” brought together a broad coalition of partners from state institutions, local governments, academia, civil society and socially responsible companies. The campaign aims to strengthen environmental protection through concrete actions and to inspire citizens to make a personal contribution to a cleaner and healthier environment.
“Čuvaj da te čuva” campaign was launched by the Delegation of the EU to Montenegro in cooperation with the Government of Montenegro and numerous partners from the civil and private sectors. Within the framework of this campaign, numerous polluted sites across Montenegro have been cleaned or rehabilitated, a national platform for reporting environmental crime has been launched, a specialised police unit to combat environmental offences has been established, and concrete steps have been taken to reduce the use of single-use plastic.
