Interview with LGBTIQ+ persons in the creative industries
In line with this year's global IDAHOT theme "The power of communities", Europe House prepared an interview with Graphic designer and photographer Ivan Velimirović Inovi
1. How does the slogan 'Creativity empowers us together' resonate with you?
For me, the slogan "Creativity empowers us together" really describes my work. Through my photography, I try to connect people who feel, think, or go through similar things as I do. I want my photos to remind others that they are not alone in this world — that we all share emotions, thoughts, and experiences in different ways. I believe that creativity helps us see the invisible connection between people and makes us more open and kind to one other.
2. Can creativity help to shape a world where everyone feels included and valued, regardless of their background or identity?
If we think that creativity alone can change the world, then I would say no. To make real change, we need more than creativity — we need courage, self-acceptance, and kindness. We have to be brave enough to be ourselves and to understand others. Creativity can inspire and open minds, but real progress also comes from hard work, reflection, and love — both for ourselves and for the people around us.
3. How do you see your creative work contributing to political and social change?
I believe my creative work can contribute to social and political change in a quiet but meaningful way. When it comes to the political side, I think creativity can support the fight for human rights by showing real stories and emotions, instead of just using words or slogans. Art can make people feel and understand things more deeply.
On the social side, I see the biggest impact through events and exhibitions. Even though we live mostly online now, something powerful happens when people come together in the same space to see a photo, a painting, or a performance. They share similar thoughts and feelings, and often meet the person behind the work. In those moments, real connection and inspiration are born — and that, for me, is already a small step toward change.
