Empowering Cultural Heritage and Opportunities for Young Innovators (ECHO for Youth)

ECHO for Youth empowers young people in Kangchenjunga region in Eastern Nepal to preserve cultural heritage while creating new livelihood opportunities. Through digital documentation, cultural events, and youth enterprises, the project supports youth to transform heritage into sustainable economic opportunities.

Context: Youth in remote Himalayan communities face limited employment opportunities while traditional cultural knowledge and heritage practices are gradually disappearing.

Real problem: Migration of young people, lack of cultural preservation systems, and limited economic opportunities threaten both livelihoods and cultural heritage in the Kangchenjunga region.

Expectations: If youth gain skills, platforms, and resources to preserve and promote their cultural heritage, they can build sustainable livelihoods and strengthen local identity.

Solution: The project will train youth in digital heritage documentation, support cultural festivals and creative outputs, establish youth councils, and provide seed funding and mentoring for youth-led enterprises related to tourism, crafts, and digital media.
