9th May 2022 is the 72th Europe Day, 72 years of European dedication to peace, prosperity, people, partnerships and the planet. In Nepal, we celebrate it with the following activities:
- EU Ambassador Nona Deprez participates in Live Chats with EU Ambassadors from all around the world at 10 CET (13:45 pm Nepal time). Join us on #EuropeDay and connect with EU Ambassadors working to promote and defend EU values in the world, including peace and solidari )ty with Ukraine. - Europe Day Reception, Bigger Court Yard of Patan Museum ( Only through invitations: invitations have been closed already) : a concert by ‘Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory’ will start at 5pm, to be followed by an interaction between EU Ambassadors and young Nepalese on the EU values, and the scope of their cooperation in Nepal for around 40 minutes . This programme will be broadcasted live by Kantipur TV up to 6pm. It will be followed by a reception. Link to the recorded version of the live broadcast:
- On 10th May, three panel discussions will be organised.
The German Embassy will take the lead for the first panel on ‘Youth & Climate’. German Ambassador to Nepal, Dr. Thomas Prinz will interact with Dr. Pema Gyamtsho, Director of ICIMOD, and young Nepalese climate activists: Sonika Poudel, UNICEF Youth Advocate, Ojaswee Amagai affiliated to Youth for Climate Action and Aarati Khadgi from WWF. The second panel discussion ‘Nepali Cinema in France Today’ coordinated by the Alliance Française de Katmandou will take place just before the 2022 Festival de Cannes and will gather Nepalese and French artists. Link to the recorded version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGcG-pWIWA8&t=10s
EU Ambassador, H.E. Nona Deprez is chairing the third panel discussion on ‘Youth & Digital Connectivity’, focusing on the impact of digitalisation on education, in particular in the context of the COVID pandemic, with a view on the challenges and opportunities it represents for Nepal. Reshu Karki Thapa, a Communication Specialist is moderating the session. The other panellists are Rakshya Poudel from Plan International, Dr. Sushil Poudel, Assistant Professor, Kathmandu University, Shreeti Shrestha, Software Engineer at Cotiviti Nepal, Sagar Parajuli, Youth & Gender Activist and Amin Shakya who is an alumni of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Program, representing the Erasmus Mundus Nepal." - The Finnish Embassy will share a video depicting the works of the Rural Village Water Resources Management Project in western Nepal, jointly funded by the Government of Finland, EU and the Government of Nepal. This video will focus on intergenerational linkages in the villages, how people have benefitted from the project same channels
- On 14 May, the EU Delegation to Nepal is organizing a clean-up campaign at the Shivapuri Nagarjung National Park, on the northern ridge of the valley ( Those interested to join will have to pay park entrance fees). The Clean-up campaign follows training sessions in schools and is organised together with Clean-Up Nepal and UN Habitat. EU and Member States Embassies as well as development organizations staffs, school students together with local youths will participate but every good will is welcome! A competition will also focus on boards raising awareness about passersby.
