CONNECTING PANAMA TO THE ENERGY OF TOMORROW
Panama and the European Union are working together to accelerate the transition to green energy. Together we are investing in sustainable energy programmes that make a positive impact on people’s lives today, and tomorrow. By using the power of wind, sun and water, we give power to the people of Panama.
Meet Ashley
Hello, I'm Ashley Zárate. I am relatively new to boxing, but I face every training session with strong determination, driven by the desire to build a better future for my two children. My sights are set on the Olympic Games, so every move, every round, is a step closer to that dream.
This bright and safe training space gives me the chance to practice every day, whether early in the morning or late at night.
Thanks to reliable lighting, I can focus on my technique and build stamina, while balancing family life. As our country shifts towards more sustainable energy, spaces like this can become the norm, giving young athletes the chance to unlock their full potential and chase their dreams.
Meet Temym
Hello, I'm Temy Maizón, known artistically as @temym. I'm a contemporary visual artist transforming Panama's urban landscape through interventions, blending design and muralism. My work brings energy to life, visualising it as the vibrant pulse connecting our world.
Digital tools are at the heart of my creative process - they power my ideas and bring my visions to life.
The immediacy of digital sketching on my tablet empowers my artistic exploration and constant evolution. As Panama moves towards sustainable energy, these electric-powered tools can become standard for future artists, giving them the freedom to transform spaces and inspire new connections.

ENERGY PROGRAMMES IN PANAMA
Powering Panama with sustainable and reliable energy and infrastructure
The European Union supports Panama’s energy transition by promoting clean energy and modern infrastructure to ensure sustainable electricity for everyone. In particular, it supports the extension and modernisation of the country’s electricity distribution networks to improve the reliability, efficiency and capacity of the national grid. This will enable the connection of new users, including low-income households, facilitate greater integration of renewable energy sources, reduce technical and commercial losses, and help meet Panama’s growing electricity demand. Universal Access to Energy in Ngäbe-Buglé region
The project, supported by the European Union, aims to increase energy coverage in the Ngäbe-Buglé region from 4% to 23.4%, reaching more than 32,400 users across households, schools, and health facilities. It expands access to sustainable energy through photovoltaic installations, mini-grids, grid extensions, and stand-alone renewable systems serving homes, public spaces, health centres, and microbusinesses. Alongside infrastructure investments, the project strengthens the planning and management capacities of the Rural Electrification Office. It also promotes women’s empowerment and delivers training in the productive use of energy and social entrepreneurship, helping local communities turn improved energy access into economic and social opportunities. Green hydrogen - the power of tomorrow
The European Union and the National Energy Secretariat (SNE) are supporting the development of a green hydrogen economy in Panama through a Human Capital Development initiative. The goal is to position Panama as a global hub for green hydrogen, building on its strategic geographic location, strong connectivity and existing infrastructure. The strategy aims to produce 500,000 tons of green hydrogen by 2030, contributing to the energy transition, accelerating the shift to renewable sources, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the fight against climate change. Boosting renewable energy markets integration in Central America
This initiative, supported by the European Union, aims to strengthen and expand the regional energy market across Central America, with potential extra-regional connections, in particular - Panama-Colombia. By connecting countries and improving electricity systems, it helps the region use energy more efficiently and reliably. Stronger regional integration is expected to boost Central America’s GDP by around 0.3%, driving economic growth and creating new opportunities for people and businesses across the region. Ultimately, the programme supports a more sustainable, resilient, and interconnected energy future for all.
Decarbonisation of maritime transport
Through its Green Shipping Corridors initiative, the European Union supports the decarbonisation of maritime transport, which accounts for nearly 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Recognising Panama’s key role as a global maritime hub, the EU promotes green shipping routes linking Latin America and Europe, while supporting national and regional efforts to reduce emissions from ships. These actions help accelerate the shift to cleaner fuels and energy-efficient technologies, strengthen sustainable maritime trade, and contribute to global climate goals. Read more here.
