Open call for scholarships: Study in Europe

Panama City, 29 October 2025 – A unique opportunity is available to all Panamanians who wish to study for a master's degree in Europe: applications are now open for Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters scholarships.

Erasmus+ is the European Union programme that supports actions in education, training, youth and sport. Since its creation in 1987, it has had more than 15 million participants. In 2014, Erasmus+ opened its participation to countries outside the European Union, including Panama. Through scholarship and project funding, Erasmus+ promotes mobility and cooperation between universities, students and teachers around the world.

Between October and December each year, applications are open for transnational master's degrees under the Erasmus Mundus study programme. These prestigious master's degrees are taught by at least three higher education institutions in two or more countries. The duration of the master's degrees varies between 1 and 2 years, and at the end of the programme, students obtain a joint degree or several degrees. Currently, the catalogue offers approximately 210 master's degrees and involves educational institutions from more than 70 countries.

The scholarships offered for Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's programmes cover tuition fees, travel and visa expenses, as well as a monthly allowance. They are intended for individuals who already hold a bachelor's degree or are in their final year of bachelor's studies and will graduate before the master's programme begins. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of the excellence of the application, depending on the requirements of the universities involved.  The scholarship is applied for simultaneously with the application to the preferred master's programme,  and it is also possible to study a master's programme under the Erasmus Mundus programme without a scholarship.

There are many reasons to take advantage of the Erasmus+ programme. According to the programme's own survey, studying abroad is a clear advantage for young people entering the job market, as it opens the door to more and better career opportunities.

In addition, studying in another European country offers the chance to learn new languages. Multilingualism is one of the pillars of the European Union, with its 24 official languages. Although master's degrees are taught in English, students can also immerse themselves in other languages and cultures through tourism.

Another major appeal of studying at a European university is the personal experience it entails: living in an international environment strengthens adaptability, intercultural communication and leadership skills.

Finally, an academic stay in Europe allows you to build a wide network of contacts, both professional and personal. Often, the friendships forged during this experience become lasting bonds. Erasmus+ not only promotes academic growth, but also connections between people and cultures.
