Panamanian talent beyond borders: Meeting with the 2025 Erasmus+ scholarship-holders and alumni

The Erasmus+ gathering aimed to congratulate the newly selected scholars and offer them an opportunity to exchange views with diplomats and former participants of the programme, who shared how this academic experience had a transformative impact on their lives—both professionally and personally. While some chose to continue their careers in Europe, others returned to Panama to apply the knowledge they had acquired for the benefit of their country. Alumni also provided practical advice on the first steps to take when settling into a new country.
Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters are programmes funded by the European Union, offering students from around the world the opportunity to undertake joint master’s degrees delivered by consortia of European universities. These programmes are characterised by their international scope, requiring students to study in at least two different countries, allowing them to immerse themselves in diverse academic and social cultures. Programme duration varies between one and two years, depending on the chosen field of study. In 2025, a record number of participants from Panama were selected in this highly competitive process.
This year’s selected scholars will pursue degrees in strategic fields aligned with the values and priorities of both the European Union and Panama, such as data protection and intellectual property, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, global studies, ecology and biodiversity management in the context of climate change, as well as electric mobility and clean energy.
The event proved to be a truly enriching experience, enabling the new scholarship recipients to get to know one another before departure, while also fostering intergenerational connections with Erasmus alumni and with representatives from the countries that will soon host them. The gathering was a celebration of young Panamanian talent, of the educational cooperation between Europe and Panama, and of the shared commitment to building a more inclusive, sustainable, and innovative future.
