Antonino Maggiore, EU Ambassador to the State of Qatar

H.E. Mr. Antonino Maggiore is the European Union Ambassador to the State of Qatar and Head of the EU Delegation. He took up his duties in Doha on 1 September 2026.

Born on 7 November 1974, Antonino Maggiore is a career diplomat who started his service at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1999.

He served as First Secretary at the Embassy of Italy in China from 2002 to 2005, heading the consular division and promoting bilateral economic and trade relations.

From 2005 to 2010, he was First Secretary at the Embassy of Italy in Türkiye, engaging in high-level EU-Turkey political dialogue and regional Middle East dynamics.

He worked as a Counsellor in the Cabinet of the Foreign Minister of Italy from 2010 to 2013, where he was responsible for the relations with the Italian Parliament and the European Parliament.

Between 2013 and 2017, he served at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union as Antici Counsellor, in charge of preparing the meetings of the Permanent Representatives, Foreign Affairs Council, General Affairs Council and European Council.

He then transitioned to the Prime Minister's Office in Rome as adviser on EU affairs in 2017 before heading the Division for the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) until 2019, where he coordinated the Italian OSCE Chairmanship.

In 2019, he was appointed Ambassador of Italy to Zambia, Malawi, and to the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).

In 2022 he assumed the role of Ambassador of the European Union to Mozambique.

From 1 September 2026, he serves as the Ambassador of the European Union to the State of Qatar.

Antonino is married to Carolina, and they have six children.

We will also continue our close dialogue on regional and global issues, working together in support of peace, stability and sustainable development.

The EU Delegation in Doha is a bridge between the European Union and Qatar. Through our work, we seek to bring our institutions, businesses, civil society and people closer together, while creating new opportunities for cooperation and mutual benefit.
