European Film Festival (EUFF): Opening Night Highlights
The landmark 35th edition of the European Film Festival (EUFF) opened at the historic Capitol Theatre - Singapore’s first ‘talkies’. A fitting stage for a celebration of contemporary European cinema.
This year is particularly special.
As we mark 35 editions of EUFF, we celebrate a shared journey built on one enduring idea: that of connection. Across borders, across culture and - most importantly - between people. With 30 films from 24 countries, this year’s programme is our most ambitious yet. It reflects the richness and diversity of Europe though stories of love, loss resilience and change brought together under one festival that evolves and grows with each edition.
At the heart of this year’s festival is Team Europe: a collective spirit that brings us together to showcase not just films, but our shared values. Stronger together, we demonstrate how culture unites and inspires. 🌍
This edition marks exciting new collaborations:
• For the first time, EUFF reaches young audiences through EUFF@GESS – the German European School Singapore, connecting European cinema directly with students and nurturing curiosity, empathy, and global awareness.
• Our partnership with Earth In Focus: Singapore Nature Film Festival highlights the urgent story of our time - the future of our planet - through the power of film.
• And with Filmhouse at Golden Mile Tower, Singapore’s newest independent cinema, we begin a new chapter - expanding the festival’s reach and engaging new audiences in fresh, creative spaces.
🎥 Opening the festival is Horseshoe, a poignant Irish film exploring themes of family, loss and the ties that bind us. An apt reminder of the emotional power of cinema to bring us closer together. In an age of endless scrolling and algorithms, cinema remains one of the rare experiences that truly stays with us long after the credits roll.
A heartfelt thanks to all our partners, collaborators and audiences. Your support is what makes this festival not just possible but meaningful.
Here’s to many more years of European cinema in Singapore!
EUFF 2026 runs till May 24th.
