We are

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global and regional organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

The EU Delegation to Singapore promotes closer political, economic, trade and people-to-people ties with Singapore bilaterally, regionally and multilaterally.

We offer

We offer a post of Policy Officer in the Political, Press and Information section. Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Policy Officer – this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation. Under this job function, the successful candidate will serve as technical and support staff to cover political and global issues, with a view to promoting the values and interests of the European Union in Singapore. This includes political analysis and reporting, research, networking with stakeholders and participating for the EU at various forums under the supervision and responsibility of the head of section. 

The position at the EU Delegation to Singapore will be in accordance to regular office working hours and conditions. The successful candidate, following the completion of a probationary period, will be offered an open-end employment contract as Local Agent – Group I. The starting salary is SG$ 8270 per month.

Selection Criteria

Minimum requirements:

  • He/she must hold a relevant University degree for the function he/she is asked to perform
  • At least 3 years of experience in international relations
  • Good knowledge of the European Union, its institutions and policies
  • Good knowledge of Asia and its political dynamics
  • Excellent communication, drafting and analytical skills combined with sound judgement
  • Good organisational skills, including events, seminars and incoming visits
  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken)
  • Medically fit to perform the required duties
  • Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law

The following will be considered as assets:

  • A post-graduate degree in Political Sciences/International Law
  • A keen interest in promoting cooperation between the EU and Singapore/ASEAN/Indo-Pacific region
  • Knowledge of Chinese (Mandarin)
  • Good social media and presentation skills
  • Experience in an embassy, an international organisation or a NGO

The procedure

After the deadline, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a short-list of candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in the application letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase which will include an interview if necessary – during this phase, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.

The candidates who have not been short-listed will not be contacted individually; however, the Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this Vacancy Notice to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
