European Union: education is key to the development of the Sudan
The EU, World Bank and UNICEF had supported the Ministry of Education to organise the "International Conference on Education" at the Friendship Hall during 25-27 January 2020.
The European Union Ambassador said education is key to the development of the country. He added education
challenge for Sudan is huge, with a good 3 million children – Sudan's future generation! – out of school today. And this number is on the rise.
The European Union Ambassador said I hold no ambition to predict outcomes of your work. Yet I am convinced it will have evolve around stepping up public expenditure to increase access to and quality of education. It will also have to focus on ways and means to improve retention rates. And, most importantly, it will have come up with initiatives to get more girls into schools and to keep them there.
The European Union Ambassador said Education is also crucial for the capacity of the economy to create job opportunities, particularly for young people, the young men and women who were at the forefront of bringing about the new Sudan. I am therefore happy to announce that we will step up our efforts to support technical and vocational education and training. Donor partners must also do their part in securing a new future for education in the new Sudan. It may not be a prominent subject in your deliberations, but I am convinced that effective donor coordination is one of the best contributions we can make to enhance effectiveness and efficiency in investment in education.
