NEW EU Ambassador presents his credentials to Sudan

Statement by the Ambassador of the European Union, Mr. Aidan O’Hara at the Republican Palace:
“I presented my credentials as Ambassador of the European Union this morning to H.E. the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council of the Republic of Sudan.
The Republic of Sudan is of key strategic importance to the Horn of Africa and to the European Union. The European Union has played a significant role in supporting the transition which began in 2019 and a resumption of the transition to civilian rule is now an urgent imperative. The European Union is keen to support a new transition that commands a broad and inclusive consensus across the country as a whole and across all generations.
I begin my mission at a time when efforts are intensifying to resolve the political impasse. Progress can be made if all the stakeholders maintain their resolve and work together in the interests of the people and the common good. We believe a solid, inclusive deal should pave the way for a civilian transitional Government that is committed to free, fair and credible elections.
A fair and just agreement will demonstrate that the political process can deliver for the people. The European Union remains steadfast with the Sudanese people and their aspirations for a better future. Now that the credentials have been presented, my work here can begin in earnest and I am looking forward to meeting and engaging with as many people as possible, young and old, in every corner of the country and enjoying the renowned Sudanese hospitality.
The European Union is a union of 27 Member States and we want to build a partnership with the Republic of Sudan based on friendship, solidarity and respect for human dignity.”
