Open Call for Artists – Unbound Sudan: : Through the Culture of Animation

Unbound Sudan seeks visual and fine artists, storytellers, animators and graphic designers to create an animated short movie through professional trainings and in collaboration with the Animation Studios Samaka Studio in Cairo and Freehand Movement Studio in Nairobi … Explore your heritage, imagine Sudan or dive deep in fantasy. Unbound Sudan seeks to connect Sudanese artists across the creative hubs in Cairo, Nairobi, and a digital hub for Sudanese artists in Sudan.

We're looking for artists who already draw well and want to tell stories — whether your background is in illustration, animation, film, or visual storytelling. You do not need animation experience; if you have some, we want to see it.

Applications are open now and close on 21 September 2026. The programme runs for eleven months, from October 2026 to August 2027, with 15 spots available — 5 in Cairo, 5 in Nairobi, and 5 in the digital hub for artists inside Sudan.

Unbound Sudan is supported by the Spaces of Culture programme under Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture, managed by EUNIC – EU National Institutes for Culture. This programme aims to improve Euro-African cultural cooperation, exchange, co-creation, and dissemination across the two continents, promoting intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding.
