Statement of the Quintet Visit to Khartoum

The Quintet (African Union, IGAD, League of Arab States, European Union and United Nations) has concluded a Good Offices mission to Khartoum, where  it held constructive discussions with the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, the Deputy Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, the Prime Minister, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and attended a working dinner at the invitation of the Minister of Finance, which was also attended by a number of political and civilian actors. 

The Quintet also met with a range of political and civilian group including the Democratic Bloc and heard from the Committee working on a conducive environment for a Sudanese Dialogue who explained the basis of its work. 

The mission ended in a meeting with independent women and youth groups.

 The Quintet mission in Khartoum was in the spirit of listening to the stakeholders on the ground and bridging its engagements outside Sudan with Sudanese initiatives emerging inside the country. 

The Quintet strongly believe that our collective efforts will eventually help to advance a credible and inclusive Sudanese led and Sudanese owned political track that delivers a transition towards a democratic, civilian led government that reflects the aspirations of the Sudanese people.

The Quintet reiterates its firm conviction that there is no military solution to the conflict in Sudan. A durable political process must be accompanied by concrete steps to protect civilians and end hostilities. 

The Quintet reaffirms its full respect for Sudan’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity and rejects parallel governing structures.
