We offer

The post of Political Officer (Local Agent Job Profile of Political Officer, Group I) in the Delegation’s Political, Press and Information Section of the Sub-Office Sudan. Under a fixed-term employment contract of Two years, with a possibility of renewal under reserve of budgetary availabilities and operational considerations. The team consists of 2-3 people and there are occasional atypical working hours.

 

Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed to functions depending on the needs of the Delegation, and on the changes of these needs. The successful candidate will serve under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of the Political, Press and Information Section, providing support, expertise and assistance in Political activities under the general supervision of the Head of PPI.

Following main tasks and duties are currently required:

 

We are seeking a Political Officer to support the Political, Press and Information (PPI) Section of the Sub-office Sudan. The role involves providing support, expertise and assistance in Political activities under the general supervision of the Head of PPI. Note that the successful candidate can be assigned different or additional tasks based on the Delegation’s evolving needs.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Monitor, follow up and analyse developments in Sudan’s domestic politics, its legal and administrative frameworks, as well as in key sectors of relevance to the work of the Section.
  • Monitor and analyse laws and regulations, government documents, reports and studies, and assess their impact.
  • Monitor and analyse regional and international developments and Sudan’s role in and positions on them, and their impact and relevance for Sudan and the EU (e.g. in the context of African Union, League of Arab States or the UN).
  • Draft, and provide inputs to, Delegation reports and notes in the political areas.
  • Prepare events, meetings and dialogues with Sudanese political counterparts.
  • Coordinate or assist in the preparation of high-level visits from/to Headquarters in Egypt and Sudan.
  • Establish and maintain contacts with the Sudanese authorities, Member States and other Embassies, and other relevant organizations and stakeholders in the areas in question.
  • Any other activities in the interest of the Section.
  • The jobholder can be asked to support other priorities of the Delegation as defined by the Head of Delegation Sub-office Sudan for up to 20% of his/her total working time.

     

 

The base salary will depend on relevant and verified employment experience, typically starting from €2,605/month (paid in Egyptian pounds at the monthly EURO exchange rate). There is a competitive benefits package, subject to certain conditions, including personal leave days and public holidays, health insurances and a retirement savings plan.

 

The expected start date will be 15 November 2026.

 

 

Minimum requirements / eligibility criteria (necessary for the application to be considered) Applicants must meet all the following:

 

  1. Education: Bachelor’s or postgraduate degrees in Politics, International Relations, History, Law or related topics.
  2. Experience: Minimum 3 years in political, press, information/project management or related fields. The professional experience must be acquired after the date on which the qualification allowing access to the post was obtained.
  3. Languages: Fluency (C2 CEFR) in English and Arabic (written and spoken).
  4. Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  5. Legal Status: Right to live and work in Egypt (non-Egyptians must provide a valid residence visa and work permit with their application).
  6. Assets/selection criteria (basis for awarding points to select the best applicant)

 

 

Candidates will be evaluated based on:

 

  • Master’s degree in one or more fields relevant to the sectors covered by this post.
  • Knowledge of EC/EU policies, administrative procedures and terminologies.
  • Knowledge of another EU language.
  • Knowledge of Sudan and experience working in the country.
  • Use of social media and AI tools for research and analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills and capacity to communicate clearly, present complex matters in a simple way, and draft quickly and precisely.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including strong networking capabilities, ability to listen, to consult and share information and ideas and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent analytical skills which include the evaluation of alternatives objectively and make sound, logical and good judgements taking on board the impact of decisions.
  • Ability to come up with suggestions for new topics of interest.
  • Management and Organizational skills which includes the capacity to prioritize and to organize work to deliver within tight deadlines.  Ability to negotiate in a multicultural and multilingual environment and good capacity to monitor progress of work.
  • Personal qualities including flexibility to work under pressure and to respond quickly to new demands including in areas not necessarily in his/her specific area of expertise.
  • Commitment to assure quality, speed and accuracy in performing duties.
  • Discretion in dealing with work related sensitive matters and high degree of responsibility in handling tasks.
  • Positive attitude, willingness to provide support to others and commitment to contribute to the work of the team.

The process

 

After the deadline for applications, the eligible applications will be admitted to the Selection by the Committee set up for this purpose.

Interviews.  Up to 4-5 top candidates will be invited to a final interview.
