The EU Ambassador to Tanzania, H.E. Manfredo Fanti together with EU Member States’ Ambassadors H.E. Frédéric Clavier (France), H.E Regine Hess (Germany), H.E Peter Van Acker (Belgium), The Netherlands Deputy Head of Mission Ms. Lianne Houben, the UN Women Representative to Tanzania Ms. Hodan Addou and the Director of TACCI, Ms. Aline Uwamahoro will jointly hold a Press Conference at the Alliance Française to present the EU’s Tanzania programme for this year’s Global Campaign of 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence (GBV).

During these 16 Days, from November 25 to December 10, 2020, the EU Delegation together with EU Member States are organizing several joint public events in Dar es Salaam. The key EU message for this year is “Maendeleo ya mwanamke ni faida kwa jamii nzima” translated as “Women empowerment benefits the whole society, which is closely aligned to the Tanzanian national theme for 2020: “Tupinge Ukatili wa Kijinsia. Mabadiliko Yanaanza na Mimi!” translated as “End Gender-Based Violence – Change begins with me.”

The objective of this year’s Campaign is to raise public awareness on the importance of eliminating GBV through women’s economic empowerment.

For the 2020 commemoration, the partners involved in this initiative are the Tanzania Community Civic Initiatives (TACCI), Children Dignity Forum (CDF) as well as prominent public figures such as Millard Ayo, Idris Sultan, Dina Marios, Dr. Kumbuka and Dida Shaibu. Artists, painters and young female entrepreneurs are also key partners.
