Before leaving for Europe to pursue her studies, Vita promises her mother that she will never sing. A family legend has it that any woman in her family who sings is cursed and will die. In Paris, after meeting and falling in love with a young musician, Pierre, she lets herself go and sings. Encouraged by Pierre, she makes a record, which becomes an overnight success. Fearing her mother will discover that she has broken her promise, Vita decides to return home… to die! Aided by Pierre, Vita stages her own death and resurrection, showing family and friends that anything is possible if you have the courage to dare.
