EU in Turkmenistan marks four years of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine

“Russia's unjust and illegal aggression against Ukraine carried tragic consequences, especially for the civilian population of Ukraine (…). We pay tribute to all the victims and their families (..). This year, we are meeting to talk about  something exceptionally important: human hearts and hands reaching out to help. About what demonstrates our humanity, which unites our regions and countries, which brings hope..” said Ambassador Peksa.

On 24 February 2026, on the fourth anniversary of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, the Delegation of the European Union to Turkmenistan hosted a discussion entitled “Ukraine – Pathways to Peace and Humanitarian Support” at its premises in Ashgabat. The event gathered diplomats from EU Member States, US, UK, Japan, Turkye, Georgia, UN, OSCE but also from Central Asian countries and, of course, Ukraine.

The event was opened by the EU Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Beata Peksa, and brought together representatives of the diplomatic community to exchange views on humanitarian assistance and international efforts in support of the civilian population of Ukraine, four years after the outbreak of the war of aggression.

In her opening remarks, Ambassador Peksa said, “Russia's unjust and illegal aggression against Ukraine carried tragic consequences, especially for the civilian population of Ukraine (…). We pay tribute to all the victims and their families (..). This year, we are meeting to talk about  something exceptionally important: human hearts and hands reaching out to help. About what demonstrates our humanity, which unites our regions and countries, which brings hope..”

The programme included presentations and speeches by invited guests, followed by a viewing of selected works from the exhibition “The Worst Anniversary Ever”, which presented the war through the eyes of Ukrainian artists.
