The Conference, a key calendar event for the energy sector in Uganda, brought together key industry players, the private sector, government officials, development partners, civil society, and investors, for thought-provoking discussions and sessions on the opportunities and challenges within the energy and minerals sectors in Uganda.
Mr Chartrain articulated the EU’s commitment standing alongside Uganda on its journey to embrace renewable energy sources and emphasised the critical significance of transitioning to cleaner energy. He conveyed #TeamEurope support to Uganda's green transition, noting the pivotal role of private sector investment. From electric boda bodas to energy-efficient initiatives, he said, the EU is exploring all avenues to facilitate a green transition in Uganda.
“The Global Gateway strategy is central to our efforts, creating sustainable and trusted connections that benefit both Europe and our partner countries. It is a powerful tool that supports projects crucial for the green transition, encompassing clean energy, sustainable transport, and digitalization,” he said.
During the conference, the EU Delegation together with the EU Member States in Uganda organised a side-event and panel discussion with key public and private sector players to highlight ongoing and planned support to Uganda's energy sector. During the debate, EU Delegation Head of Cooperation Caroline Adriaensen stated the EU’s priority remains on cleaner and more affordable energy solutions. She said the EU is actively supporting the Ugandan private sector by providing grants, impact funds, bridging the gap between green startups and investors and fostering capacity.
