All European Union Embassies will continue to operate in Kyiv
All European Union embassies remain open in Kyiv, and Russia should not test the Vienna Convention’s limits.
This was stated by EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova in a comment to Suspilne.
She noted in her comment that these threats against diplomatic missions from Russia stem from frustration over its lack of advantage on the battlefield.
“We are staying in Kyiv, and so are all the other embassies of European Union countries. We are in close contact. So we are here. The EU Advisory Mission remains, and so do the EU embassies. We have 25 member states with embassies in Kyiv, and all of them are staying. Russia has made such threats several times already, and, in my opinion, this is a sign of frustration because they are failing to gain the upper hand on the battlefield,” Mathernova said.
According to her, despite Russia’s threats, the EU will not stop supporting Ukraine.
“They are trying to force us to reduce our support for Ukraine. But I think we are only more determined to continue this support. There are the Vienna Conventions, which regulate the activities of diplomatic missions worldwide, and Russia would be wise not to test their limits,” the diplomat said.
"Together with other Heads of Mission in Kyiv, we take note with concern of the Russian MFA's threat against diplomats and foreign citizens in Ukraine. Russia is bound by the Vienna Convention and international humanitarian law. We stay in Kyiv" - stated Katarina Mathernova on her official X page.
