The aim of the #16Days of activism is to show continuous commitment to preventing and ending gender-based violence to end the negative impacts on women's health and livelihoods. While gender equality has been one of the guiding principles of EU external actions, the Covid-19 pandemic has revealed persistent gender-inequalities globally. Women suffer disproportionately from the economic and social consequences of Covid-19 and the pandemic has caused a spike in violence against women all around the world. To raise awareness not only online but also on the streets, the EU Delegation together with UN Women has launched a campaign until 10 December, covering buses and trams in Geneva with orange campaign logos and messages. https://twitter.com/EU_UNGeneva/status/1330871075001995265 Marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the city of Geneva symbolically “oranged” the Jet d’eau as well as the Palais des Nations Unies on the 25 November. https://twitter.com/EU_UNGeneva/status/1331679588523651072​  “Violence against women and girls is a human rights violation that’s been perpetuated for decades. It’s pervasive, but not inevitable - unless we stay silent” is one of the key messages of the international campaign.
