EU Powering Global Health Resilience
EU side event during the UNGA High-Level Week
EU Powering Global Health Resilience
On 24 September 2026, the European Commission will hold a side event on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week, hosted by Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Síkela.
The event will present and discuss, in a high-level multilateral setting, the priorities of the EU Global Health Resilience Initiative as the European Union’s renewed approach to global health. The event will also shed light on how Global Gateway, the EU’s strategic external investment policy, enables the concrete delivery of this vision by mobilising high-standard, 360-degree investments in health in partner countries, in line with the EU’s interests and values.
Background
The Communication on the EU Global Health Resilience Initiative was adopted by the European Commission on 13 May 2026. The Communication builds on the EU Global Health strategy and the Global Gateway strategy, and defines EU priorities and avenues for an effective, coordinated, and efficient EU action, together with our Member States, multilateral institutions, and partner countries.
Format
The event will be held at the premises of the EU Delegation to the United Nations in a hybrid format (in person and livestreaming). Access with the QR code received upon registration will be open between 08:00 and 08:15 and will be accompanied by a welcome breakfast. The panel will begin at 08:30 sharp.
Objectives
The event will offer a platform to discuss existing and upcoming actions under Global Gateway and the Global Health Resilience Initiative, and advance a common agenda for stronger, more equitable and more resilient health systems globally.
Participants
The discussion will bring together high-level representatives from partner countries, EU Member States, development finance institutions, the private sector, international organisations and more.
