ECB President Lagarde visits London for EEFC Distinguished Speakers Seminar

On 4 September, President of the European Central Bank Christine Lagarde was in London to attend a seminar organised by the European Economics & Financial Centre (EEFC) devoted to communication and monetary policy.

Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank (ECB), the central bank of the European Union countries using the euro, visited London to take part in the EEFC seminar, taking place at Westminster Palace. President Lagarde was warmly welcomed to the event by Brian Allan, EEFC Board Member, and accompanied by Pedro Serrano, EU Ambassador to the United Kingdom. The insightful seminar about communication and monetary policy delivered by the ECB President was moderated by Hannah Scobie, Chairman of EEFC and Professor at the University of London.

Christine Lagarde has been the President of the European Central Bank since November 2019. Between 2011 and 2019, she served as the eleventh Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Prior to that she served as French Economic Finance Minister from 2007 to 2011 after having been Trade Secretary from 2005 to 2007. A lawyer by background, she practiced for 20 years with the international law firm Baker McKenzie, of which she became global chairman in 1999. In all such positions, she was the first woman to serve. In 2020, President Lagarde was ranked the second most influential woman in the world by Forbes and has been named by TIME as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
