EU Networking Event brings together Erasmus+ Alumni community in Uzbekistan
12 June 2026 – The Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan, in cooperation with the National Erasmus+ Office (NEO), hosted the Erasmus+ Alumni Networking event in Tashkent by bringing together Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) programme scholarship winners and alumni, participants of other Erasmus+ programmes, representatives of higher education institutions, government officials, members of the diplomatic community, and other stakeholders engaged in international cooperation in higher education.
The networking event provided an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of Erasmus+ participants in Uzbekistan, strengthen professional and academic networks, and promote dialogue among students, alumni, universities, and institutional partners. The event also welcomed the newly selected Erasmus Mundus students who will begin their studies at leading European universities this year.
In his opening remarks, H.E. Toivo Klaar, Ambassador of European Union to Uzbekistan highlighted a transformative role of Erasmus+ in strengthening the ties between the European Union and Uzbekistan through education, mobility, and people-to-people relationships
"While trade, transport and digital connectivity remain priorities in EU-Uzbekistan cooperation, they can only succeed if we first invest in the human dimension of our relationship. Erasmus+ creates mutual trust and understanding by empowering men and women from Europe and Uzbekistan to meet, learn from each other, and build lasting bonds”.
The event participants have engaged in networking and discussions on international academic cooperation, student mobility, and future opportunities under Erasmus+. The event also served as a platform to strengthen the growing Erasmus+ community in Uzbekistan and encourage closer cooperation between universities, alumni, and current programme participants. It has reflected the European Union’s continued commitment to supporting educational cooperation, academic excellence, youth development, and people-to-people connections between the European Union and Uzbekistan.
Background
Erasmus+ is the European Union’s flagship programme supporting education, training, youth and sport. Over the past twelve years, more than 2,700 Uzbek students and university staff have studied or taught at European universities through Erasmus+ mobility opportunities, while more than 1,400 Europeans have come to Uzbekistan for academic exchange. Erasmus+ has also supported higher education reforms through numerous Capacity Building for Higher Education projects and Jean Monnet activities, while 137 Uzbek students have received prestigious Erasmus Mundus scholarships since 2014.
