European Union Festival took place to mark 30 years of partnership between the European Union and Uzbekistan

On 18 May, the Tashkent Botanical Garden hosted the European Union Festival to celebrate the Europe Day and 30 years of partnership between the European Union and the Republic of Uzbekistan. Despite the rain, thousands of guests participated in the festive event and its extensive programme of cultural and educational events of the festival in honor of the important date of cooperation between the European Union and Uzbekistan.

“This year marks the celebration of 30 years of a mutually enriching partnership between the European Union and Uzbekistan. The EU Festival stands as a vibrant testimony to our unwavering dedication to fostering sustainable development, upholding democratic principles, and advancing economic prosperity throughout Uzbekistan. We are proud to be able to present a wide range of projects and initiatives aimed at improving trade, education, human rights, sustainable development and cultural exchange. Our collaboration thrives on mutual respect and shared values, laying the foundation for even greater achievements in the future through our collective endeavours," expressed  Her Excellency Charlotte Adriaen, Ambassador of the European Union to Uzbekistan, during the inauguration of the European Union Festival.

The highlight of the Festival was a large exhibition showcasing 50 projects funded by the EU and its Member States in Uzbekistan and Central Asia. This unique platform featured initiatives in various fields, including trade, employment, human rights, education, skills development, sustainable development, agriculture, culture, and more.

The EU-funded projects showcased a diverse array of initiatives aimed at driving economic growth and fostering societal development in Uzbekistan. A significant emphasis was placed on projects under the EU Global Gateway framework, dedicated to bolstering trade relations and employment opportunities, thus serving as pivotal drivers for Uzbekistan's economic advancement. Additionally, the exhibition highlighted projects addressing human rights and civil society, designed to fortify democratic institutions and promote human rights structures across Uzbekistan. The exhibition also prominently featured EU-funded projects in education and professional skills development, crucial for nurturing a highly skilled workforce to support Uzbekistan's rapidly evolving economy. Furthermore, environmental sustainability and agriculture projects underscored their vital role in promoting sustainable agriculture and resource management practices, thereby ensuring the long-term prosperity of both current and future generations. Lastly, cultural projects were showcased for their dual role in preserving Uzbekistan's rich cultural heritage while also fostering meaningful cultural exchanges, contributing to a deeper appreciation and understanding of diverse cultures.

 

 European Union Festival

In addition to the Exhibition, the Festival featured interactive events including the Erasmus quiz, the "Successful Agricultural Specialist" quiz, the "Made in Uzbekistan" product tasting, and the "Climate Frescoes" game that offered participants a platform to gain knowledge and explore skills development.

The Festival culminated with a Gala Concert with the participation of Sahar Group, Vasilisa Naipak, Elyorbek Meliboev, Sabina Mustaeva, VIA Marokand, The Hooligans band and DJ King Macarella.
