On November 18, 2022, the Samarkand EU-Central Asia Connectivity Conference: Global Gateway will be held in Samarkand. The event, initiated with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, will provide a platform for intra- and interregional dialogue on shared solutions, that will help translate the goals of resilience, prosperity and regional cooperation, set out in the EU Strategy on Central Asia of 2019, into action.

As part of global efforts to help mitigate the socio-economic impact of the new geopolitical context, the EU and the countries of Central Asia are working together to support Central Asian countries’ drive to modernise, boost investment, digitalise, facilitate trade within and beyond the region and diversify their transport routes.

Given the common history and challenges faced by the region’s economies as well as their developing links, closely co-ordinated regional responses will bring to the successful implementation of joint efforts.

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, leaders of the countries and other key persons will be speakers at the Conference in Samarkand.

Specialists and experts from the private sector, government agencies, researchers and media representatives are invited to participate in the event. The three key thematic panel sessions will cover issues related to digitalization, transport and logistics, energy and water resources.
