The XI European Film Festival to Take Place in Uzbekistan

One of the season’s most anticipated cultural events will take place in Tashkent from 23 to 25 October and, for the first time, in Urgench on 27 October.

The programme of the XI European Film Festival features 11 films, ranging from thought-provoking dramas and biographical stories to documentaries and animated films. The screenings will take place at the National Palace of Cinematic Arts of Uzbekistan. In addition, on 28 October, the British Council in Uzbekistan, in partnership with Uzbekistan State World Languages University, will present a programme of short films for students, while public film screenings will be held at the MOK HUB cultural space.

The festival’s film programme has been made possible thanks to contributions from the embassies of Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Romania and Slovenia, with the support from the Alliance Française in Tashkent and the Goethe-Institut. Several films in the programme have received national and international film awards.

Since 2013, the festival has been organised annually by the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan in cooperation with the embassies of European countries accredited in Uzbekistan, with the support of the Cinematography Agency under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Admission to all screenings is free of charge. Films will be shown in their original languages with Uzbek and/or Russian subtitles.
