9.000 EU citizens repatriated from India during the Covid-19 crisis

28.04.2020

The stranded travelers returned home aboard the national carriers of 14 EU Member States and partner countries in a coordinated operation led by the EU Delegation in New Delhi

Unprecedented times call for unprecedented action. Over the last few weeks, the EU and its Member States have managed to bring back over half a million EU citizens affected by travel restrictions and stranded abroad. Thanks to a dedicated Consular Task Force set up by the EEAS in March, and its close cooperation with Member States and the Commission, a historic repatriation effort has highlighted EU solidarity at its best.

In India, the EU delegation has been assisting the EU Member States in the repatriation operation, along with liasing with the Indian authorities to facilitate repatriation of 9.000 EU citizens. Keeping with EU solidarity, flights organized by various national carriers have accommodated citizens from multiple EU and partner countries.

The #coronavirus knows no borders, nor does the #EUSolidarity.
