Head of the Rome EU Delegation, Ambassador Alexandra Valkenburg, presented on 20 January 2021 in Rome her credentials to the Sovereign Order of Malta, in the person of H.E. Fra’ Marco Luzzago, Lieutenant of the Gran Maestro. She assured the Order of the EU’s commitment to continuing the excellent relations that are based on a Memorandum of Understanding concluded in 2009. The Order of Malta has been for many years a valuable partner of the European Union, having supported the implementation of EU programmes and projects world-wide, especially in the fields of emergency relief, medical care, the fight against poverty and special assistance to people affected by conflicts.
