Beyond Relief: Sustainable and Inclusive Health System Strategies in North East Syria

29.04.2024

Organiser: Un Ponte Per

After 13 years of conflict, the humanitarian response has demonstrated its limitations in adequately addressing the essential needs of the population and fostering their resilience. While indispensable, such assistance can only serve as a transitory and costly measure in an environment where the viability of conventional, long-term developmental programs remains unattainable. This approach also raises concerns regarding its sustainability and cost-effectiveness, particularly amidst reducing resources due to other ongoing and emerging humanitarian crises worldwide.

The objective of the Side Event is to provide an open space for a technical reflection on the most effective modalities for coordinating and implementing early recovery initiatives within the healthcare sector in North East Syria. Through this event, UPP endeavours to contribute to the dialogue concerning coordinated, sustainable, participatory, and locally driven programming in the health sector, consolidating and building upon existing early recovery interventions while concurrently bolstering local capacities. The aim is to explore avenues for increasing the effectiveness and durability of interventions, thus striving towards more resilient and self-sustaining healthcare systems in NES.
