Brazil: VIII. High-Level Political Dialogue with EU took place in Brasilia

The following is the text of a joint press release by the EU and Brazil issued by both sides

The VIII. Meeting of the High Level Political Dialogue between Brazil and the European Union took place in Brasilia, on 30 May, in the framework of the re-launching of the Brazil-EU Strategic Partnership.

The two delegations had a very fruitful exchange of views on a wide range of issues in the bilateral, regional and multilateral spheres, with a view to further deepening the well-established cooperation between Brazil and the EU.

They noted with appreciation the increase in the number of high-level visits and contacts between Brazil and the EU since January 2023 and discussed the preparations for the upcoming high level EU visits.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to re-dynamising and broadening the Strategic Partnership established in 2007, the first one between the EU and a Latin American country. They recognized that resuming the annual Brazil-European Union summits would be an important step in this direction. They expressed the view that the next summit should produce concrete results in view of widening and deepening our relations.

Both parties agreed as well on rendering existing mechanisms of dialogue and cooperation more efficient, in view of tackling mutually agreed priorities.

They shared views on a number of issues, including defense and security, the environment and climate change, the Mercosur-EU agreement, the preparatory process of the CELAC-EU Summit and the priorities for Brazil’s G-20 presidency, as well as the war in Ukraine, and the situation in Haiti and Venezuela, among other topics.

The High Level Political Dialogue was co-chaired by Maria Luisa Escorel de Moraes, Secretary of Europe and North America at the Ministry of External Relations of Brazil, and by Enrique Mora, Deputy Secretary General, Political Director, of the European External Action Service.
