Cambodia: EU leaders receive Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Manet strengthening EU-Cambodia Ties
Prime Minister of Cambodia Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet visited the European Union Institutions on 24 and 25 February 2026, marking an important step in the EU-Cambodia relations and aiming to further deepen bilateral cooperation.
During his visit, Prime Minister Hun Manet met with the President of the European Council Antonio Costa, High Representative/Vice President Kaja Kallas and Vice President of the European Parliament Christel Schaldemose to exchange views on bilateral relations, global issues and regional security, human rights, and economic cooperation. The discussions were focused on the EU's continued support for Cambodia's graduation from the Least Developed Country status in 2029, on concerns related to human rights, good governance and online fraud, as well as on global affairs and EU-ASEAN relations, inter alia.
"The EU and Cambodia share a commitment to stability, multilateralism, and a rules-based international order," said President Costa. “The EU appreciates Cambodia’s support for the EU’s stronger engagement with ASEAN, ahead of the EU-ASEAN Commemorative Summit planned for 2027.”
Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasised Cambodia's desire to strengthen ties with the EU, citing the bloc's importance as a trade partner.
The visit also provided an opportunity to exchange on the border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand. The EU welcomed the ceasefire agreement agreed on 27 December 2025, called for its full implementation in line with international law, and offered support for the peace process.
The EU-Cambodia partnership is built on a strong foundation of cooperation, with the EU being one of Cambodia's largest donors, providing approximately EUR 270 million in grant funding for development projects.
