Civil Society Facility (Georgia)

2014-2020

EU contribution EUR 6 million

Civil society in Georgia benefits from a benign environment in terms of legal and regulatory aspects. Civil society organisations are able to function without harassment by the authorities, including tax authorities, regardless of their activities or the opinions they express. Despite the generally positive picture, civil society organisations in Georgia continue to demonstrate very low levels of overall sustainability. This tends to undermine links of civil society organisations with their constituencies and target groups

The overall objective of the programme is to enhance the sustainability of civil society in Georgia. The specific objectives are 1) to increase financial sustainability of civil society organisations through improved regulatory framework for civil society organisations and increased awareness on corporate social responsibility among all relevant stakeholders; and 2) to increase accountability and capacities of civil society organisations to promote reforms in the context of EU association processes through Strengthened link between civil society organisations (including local action groups) and their constituencies/target groups, Strengthened civil society organisations capacities regarding organisation and management, Strengthened civil society organisation capacities to conduct advocacy and oversight, and Enhanced sustainability and effectiveness of the Georgian National Platform.
