Colombia: Joint Press Release on negotiations on a Partnership and Cooperation Agreement
Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, and Laura Sarabia, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, agreed today in Brussels to launch negotiations on a Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, marking a new chapter in EU-Colombia relations.
The planned agreement will allow the two sides to further strengthen political ties and deepen cooperation on key areas of common interest, including climate and environment, the fight against drugs trafficking and organized crime, green energy, and security and defence.
The two leaders also discussed global challenges and bi-regional cooperation between the EU and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) ahead of the upcoming CELAC–EU Summit in Colombia on 9–10 November. The Summit will be a key moment to strengthen the EU–CELAC partnership and advance cooperation on global priorities, including multilateralism, security, climate, trade, digital and green transitions, and the fight against organized crime. In preparation, EU and CELAC Foreign Ministers will meet in New York during the UN General Assembly.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the UN Charter and the rules-based multilateral order. The EU High Representative and Vice-President of the European Commission reaffirmed her support to Colombia in defending democracy, institutional stability, and the pursuit of peace.
