Ecuador: Statement by HR/VP Josep Borrell on the presidential election

The European Union congratulates the people of Ecuador for their orderly participation in the second round of Ecuador's presidential elections that took place on Sunday 15 October.

The people of Ecuador’s commitment to democracy was notably reflected in the high voter turnout, despite the challenges posed by the overall security situation.

The EU is a long-term partner and will continue to cooperate with Ecuador to support its democratic institutions, strengthen the rule of law, improve the security situation, and promote economic and social development. Our ties have intensified in recent years, as evidenced by the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the margins of the EU-CELAC Summit, and we look forward to further deepening our relations with the new government of Daniel Noboa.
