EU Beach Clean-up in Sri Lanka
The event also formed part of our fight against climate change carried out through the EU-funded PROMISE project, which aims to reduce & prevent marine litter along the Lakshadweepa shoreline.
Over 100 participants, including EU Delegation staff members, Member States, local partners and students, joined the beach clean-up and together we collected 210KG of waste.
By working together with local partners, the EU strives to create a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable future for Sri Lanka's tourism sector.
In Sri Lanka, the tourism sector contributes 12,6% towards Sri Lanka’s economy and is the third largest foreign exchange earner. However, since 2019 Sri Lanka’s tourism industry has suffered multiple crises and this has had ripple effects affecting the entire country and its people. The EU Delegation is currently funding 8 different projects in a multiply areas (such nature based rural tourism, or wellness tourism) to support the revival of the tourism sector in the country.
