The EU-China Summit will take place in Beijing on 7 December. Relations between the EU and China are wide-ranging and increasingly complex. Here are some of the key issues that mark the bilateral relationship.

The EU views China simultaneously as a partner, a competitor and a systemic rival.

Economic ties are at the core of EU-China relations. But at the same time the EU has concerns about the imbalanced trade relationship, market access problems and the challenging investment environment.

The EU and China should work together to tackle global challenges, including climate change, debt sustainability, global health, food security, or biodiversity.

The EU expects China to uphold the UN Charter in its entirety and to take decisive action to influence Russia to stop its war against Ukraine.

The EU will continue to voice its concerns about violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms in China.
