Following on from the AU-EU Summit in Luanda in November last year, and Africa Day on 25 May 2026, the HR/VP hosted African Ambassadors to the EU on 3 June for an exchange on priorities of EU-Africa relations.
The participation rate of 43 countries from across the region demonstrates strong interest from across Africa in engaging with the EU. The discussions focused on strengthening EU-Africa relations, addressing geopolitical developments, and exploring opportunities for cooperation in key areas such as security, trade, and multilateral reforms.
The Ambassadors welcomed the initiative for more regular and structured political dialogue, calling for closer collaboration, better communication, and monitoring based on consultation. They also requested stronger EU engagement on conflict prevention and crisis management, notably in support of African-led processes.
Multilateralism was underlined as a common value to be jointly defended, with several interventions calling for reforms of the UN system (notably the UNSC) and the International Financial Architecture.
