EUAM Iraq and the NATO Mission Iraq sign a Memorandum of Cooperation

EUAM Iraq and NMI are committed to collaborate and cooperate in fields such as: capacity building, human resources management, crisis management, governance, gender, women, peace, security and international law including human rights.
- The two Missions operate in different Ministries, but I see that we have plenty of opportunities to cooperate in the future and we can share best practices, Major General Dany Fortin, the Commander of NATO Mission Iraq stated.
- We have cooperated with NMI from the beginning of the Mission and have organised joint events. I see that we can expand our cooperation even further, EUAM Iraq Head of Mission Dr. Ritter said.
EUAM Iraq discussed recent violent protests with the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior
EUAM Iraq Acting Head of Mission Mr. Benny Jensen met with the Ministry of Interior (MoI) Spokesperson Saad Maan to discuss the security situation related to the political developments in Iraq. The Mission expressed its deepest condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims during the recent violent protests. Thousands of mostly young men have been demonstrating in different parts of Iraq against corruption, unemployment and poor public services.
Spokesperson Maan informed that an investigation was under way to determine who was behind the deadly demonstrations and violence.
The two parties also discussed the attacks against Iraqi media agencies. On 5 October during the violent demonstrations unknown assailants attacked several TV-stations countrywide, such as Al-Hadth, Dijla, NRT, Al-Arabiya, Al-Nahar and Al-Fourat. Spokesperson Maan condemned all attacks against the press and freedom of speech.
