Funded traineeship for young graduates at the EU Delegation to India
We offer:
A traineeship of up to 6 months within the Sustainable Modernisation Section of the EU Delegation to India, starting in July 2023.
The section currently includes 8 professionals with diverse backgrounds in e.g. project management, public diplomacy, environment (biodiversity, water & air management, circular economy), climate, energy, transports, urbanisation, SMEs and Industry. We report to above services like DG ENV, DG ENERGY, DG CLIMATE and work closely with the EU External Action Service, Research & Innovation, Press & Information, and International Partnership/Cooperation.
Main tasks:
- Understanding the missions, activities, stakeholders, processes and operational environment of the Delegation;
- Drafting of professional and diplomatic documents;
- Basic Internal Control Standards;
- Operating and communicating in a multicultural environment;
- Delivering quality in a timely way;
- Basics of project management;
- Understanding EU Policies and objectives in the context of EU-India Dialogues on a range of environmental topics including: climate (mitigation, adaptation and finance), energy, water, urbanization, transports, industry & private sector engagement, biodiversity or circular economy;
- Develop both autonomy and a team-player attitude, depending on tasks.

Qualifications or special requirements:
Taking into account the local health and security conditions, only Indian citizens and European citizens already residing in India and holding a valid visa and residential permit for the entire foreseen duration of the traineeship will be considered.
- Complete fluency in English, excellent drafting skills,
- Good communication (including online, and event management) in Hindi would be an asset,
- Proven technical understanding of (some of) above topics and policy fields,
- Willingness and capacity to juggle and prioritize while multitasking,
- Interest to consider future career in the public sector,
- Availability and commitment over the 6 months of the traineeship.

Important information to read before applying
Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship)
Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.
Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.
Citizens from EU Member states:
- must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
- must undertake to apply for a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable, based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.
The Delegation informs that even if our Headquarters confirm the eligibility of the selected candidate, traineeships could be postponed, suspended or even cancelled considering the context of the COVID-19 in the host country as well as in the country of origin where applicable.
